SCC Urges Vigilance Amidst Rising COVID-19 Concerns

In a recent development, Trinidad and Tobago reported its first case of the JN.1 sub-variant of COVID-19, a descendant of the Omicron variant. While there is no evidence to suggest increased severity, health authorities caution that the sub-variant may spread more easily. In light of this, the South Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (SCC) emphasizes the importance of reinstating COVID-19 protocols.

The SCC extends heartfelt commendations to all for their resilience and commitment to health and safety during the pandemic's peak. Due to the collective efforts of stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and the grace of God, we were able to resume our cherished activities in homes, churches, schools, and organizations.

Despite the positive strides, recent information from the Ministry of Health indicates an uptick in COVID-19, influenza, and other viruses. It is our shared responsibility to remain vigilant and prioritize the well-being of our community.

As a response to these concerns, the SCC Administrative Committee (ADCOM) has made the following decisions, effective immediately:

  • Re-introduce Hand Hygiene: Emphasize regular hand washing and sanitization practices.
  • Stay at Home: Individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms are kindly asked to remain at home.
  • Mask Wearing: Encourage the elderly, their caregivers, and other vulnerable individuals in our congregations to wear masks.
  • Self-Regulated Distancing: Maintain self-regulated distancing as an additional precautionary measure.

These measures are precautionary and aim to foster a culture of caution and responsibility. Our cooperation is vital in preventing further spread and safeguarding the health of our church family.

Let us remain prayerful, supportive, and united in our efforts. With God's grace and our collective commitment, we will navigate these challenging times with resilience and faith.
