SCC Holds COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness Program
POSTED : 25 Feb 2021
The South Caribbean Conference (SCC) recently held an online seminar on the covid-19 vaccine on February 13, 2021.
The event was moderated by Dr Oscar Ocho, with a panel comprising of two ministers of religion and four academics/medical professionals. These were Dr Vishwanath Partapsingh, Dr Tiffany Hoyte, Dr Michael Hogue, Dr Zeno Charles Marcel with the two ministers of religion being Dr Kern Tobias and Pastor Leslie Moses.
The programme began with a welcome and greetings from Sis Victoria De Coteau, Health Ministries Director of the SCC. The zoom event was broadcast live on the SCC channel and can be reviewed here. Well over 2500 viewers tuned in to the live-streamed Zoom event and by the time of writing this video has been viewed over 14,000 times.
This is a timely program as across the nation of Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean, many members are sharply divided on their opinions regarding taking the COVid-19 vaccine. This was reflected in a very engaging chat as the event was streamed. Viewers asked a range of questions, and at the time the live chat became, according to one person, ‘contentious’.
According to Mrs De Coteau, the programme was crafted to provide all viewers 'a broad spectrum of views' and not limited merely to Adventist Health Professionals. This resulted in a wide range of medical views, which each viewer can use to prayerfully decide.
The Union President, Dr Tobias, in his closing remarks encouraged all members to be informed and make their decision within the context of prayer. The SCC President stated that the conference’s position is to encourage its members to take the vaccine, but echoed the sentiments of Dr Tobias that the Christian should be encouraged to make every decision through prayer.
We are thankful for the Health Ministries Department and the various panellist who made the programme an engaging and informative one.
