Two ordained to ministry in first post covid-19 ordination
POSTED : 17 Nov 2021
Two ministers of the South Caribbean Conference were ordained to Gospel Ministry in an ordination service on November 6th, 2021. The service was held at the San Fernando Adventist Church and was live-streamed on the Conference’s YouTube channel. With all the protocols observed, the Administration of the Caribbean Union Conference, together with the Administrators of the South Caribbean Conference facilitated this Ordination, Covid-19 style.
This was the first Conference ordination since the Pandemic began. While the service was held in person, SCC media understands that the ordination was ‘delayed’ as there was a preference for an in-church service instead of a fully virtual ordination service. At the time of the Ordination service, government protocols allowed for a small number of in-person attendees but several hundred were in online attendance via the conference’s website, social media platforms and YouTube channels. Pastor Hospedales shared with SCC media that this was the first conference ordination in the current San Fernando church and the first ordination since 1989 in the south.
The Two ministerial families ordained to gospel ministry are:
Pastor Larry Kirk Harrow and Sis Keslyn Harrow. Pastor Larry Harrow is presently the Pastor of the Morvant District in North Trinidad.
Pastor Claire Shannon Hospedales and Sister Tessa Hospedales. Pastor Hospedales is presently the minister of the St. Margaret’s District in South Trinidad.
Promptly at 3:30 pm, the praise team took our minds heavenward with songs of hope and thanksgiving, followed by our illustrious President, Pastor Leslie Moses who welcomed those present and also on our virtual platform. In his introduction and welcome address, Conference President Pastor Leslie Moses expressed his joy in the service being held and welcomed everyone to the proceedings. “ I know you would have preferred to be here…but we are forced to do it this way”. In attendance were several ministers, conference, and union officials.
Dr. Kern Tobias, President of the Caribbean Union Conference in his sermonette reminded the two Pastors of their calling to gospel ministry and their responsibility of becoming a Minister because of Christ’s Mystery: the gospel for all – Church is formed from diverse groups extending grace to all, both Gentiles and Jews. Pastor Tobias challenged the ordinands to “be expected to minister because of Christ’s Ministry”. He reminded the Ordinands that “once you have been drawn to Christ, once you have been consumed in his loved, once you are ordained to Christ, you are obligated to every single human”.
The prayer of Ordination was offered by Pastor Johnson Frederick, Executive Secretary of the Caribbean Union. In his prayer Pastor asked God to “cover them and their families as they enlarge their territory in ministry”. The charge was executed by Ps. Bertie Henry, Treasurer of CARU.
Several online viewers extended congratulations to the newly ordained ministers. Some were general salutations:
- 'Congratulations to both Pastors. May God richly bless you while you work in His vineyard.'
- 'Congratulations to you both and your wives. May God continue to bless your Ministry'
Others offered more directed more personal salutations:
- 'Congratulations to Pastor Claire Hospedales you are a strong soldier of the cross committed and dedicated to God'.
- 'Congratulations to Pastor Larry Harrow on this special occasion in your ministry'.
We give thanks to God for his anointing on these two families. The full service can be viewed online via the SCC Youtube Channel.
