POSTED : 22 Apr 2022
On Sunday, April 17th, 2022 the South Caribbean Conference (SCC) held a tribute service for pastor Gavin Paul who recently passed away. Under the theme ‘See you later Pastor Garvin Paul, Part 1. Pastor Paul was a native of Grenada but lived most of his life in Trinidad and served for many years in the SCC. Pastor Paul has served as Department Director in the South Caribbean Conference in several Ministries including Personal Ministries, Sabbath School, and Community Services and had a pastoral ministry lasting for over 35 years.
In his presentation, Caribbean Union's President, Dr Kern Tobias remembered him as “a pastor who distinguished himself as a passionate, influential and effective leader” and paid tribute for his work in the South Caribbean Conference and the wider Caribbean Union. South Caribbean President Ps Leslie Moses share that “Garvin was always an outstanding person” even from school days at CUC. On behalf of the Inter American Division, Dr Samuel Telemaque shared condolences and stated that Hebrews 11:13-16 “reflects the life and work of Ps Paul and who he is”.
Several members of the Adventist community share condolences: “Sincere condolences to the Paul family. Keep trusting 'cause it won't be long. May God always be your strength”. Pastor Jerome Adams shared “Deepest condolences to the family of Ps. Garvin Paul on behalf of the Ministerial Association of the SCC.” “Ps. Paul was a music minister who served God and His church extremely well…truly a servant of God and a friend to many”.
In early 2021, a retirement service was held for Pastor Paul at the Good News Chapel (GNC) in St Augustine, Trinidad, one of the churches of his last pastoral assignment. Even during his retirement service, Pastor Paul joined the praise team in singing songs of praise. Pastor Paul is fondly remembered as a minister who punctuated his ministry with singing. He will be remembered for the joyous laughter of both Bride and Groom while being a Master of Ceremony (MC) at the marriage ceremony of one of his ministerial colleagues; he broke into the singing of ‘She's Royal’ by reggae artist Tarrus Riley. According to one post “Sooo many happy memories. May you in your retirement continue to be a blessing to as many people as you have been in your ministry. Our prayer for you is for continued health and happiness.
Pastor Garvin Paul was laid to rest on Wednesday 20th April 2022. On behalf of the communication department of the South Caribbean Conference, we express our condolence to his family. Please keep his family in your prayers. Both the Funeral and Remembrance services can be found on the South Caribbean Conference’s YouTube channel. We give thanks to God for the life and ministry of Pastor Garvin ‘Dunbar’ Paul.
