Conference Session report in review
The 41st Session of the South Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists began in grand style at the University of the Southern Caribbean on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. A mini-parade involving the Uniform members of the Youth Department and the three drum corps opened the evening’s proceedings. Members of the drum corps showed their colours and skills. They were inspected by Dr. Myrna Costa, Vice President of the Inter-American Division, Dr. Kern Tobias, President of the Caribbean Union Conference, Pastor Leslie Moses, and Elder Danny Mahadeo, former Executive Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the South Caribbean Conference.
Following the National Anthem, a very spirit-filled song service was conducted by Sis. Judy Mae Swann, who also taught us the Theme Song for the week: “ Sustained by Grace.” Credit must be given to Pastor Garvin Paul the composer of our Theme Song. This song adequately set the tone for the Devotional Feature, which was delivered by Dr. Myrna Costa.
The business aspect of the Session began with Pastor Leslie Moses and Elder Danny Mahadeo seating the Delegates and Companies. They guided the process for the vote to amend the constitution. Acceptance of the President’s Report concluded the business of the evening.
Dr. Clifford Jones, our Feature Devotional speaker for this Session, commenced day two with another powerful presentation of the Word. The business sessions followed, with the Secretary and Treasurer reporting as well as the reports of the other departmental directors and the setting up of the Organizing Committee.
The Organizing Committee began its work at 5:00 p.m. On Thursday August 4, the Nominating Committee was presented. During the devotional feature presented by Pastor Desmond James, President of the South Leeward Mission, the first report of the Nominating Committee informed of the election of Pastor Wayne Andrews as the new President of the South Caribbean Conference.
“How to Play Second Fiddle” was the inspiring message from Dr. Jones on Friday morning. The message that “Jesus emptied Himself, subjected His will to that of His Father….” touched the hearts of all who heard. He espoused that we must decrease to allow Christ to increase in our lives.”
The second report of the Nominating Committee was referred, and later, after adjustments were made, was voted. The following positions were filled: Secretary – Pastor Paul Philbert, Treasurer – Pastor Donnie Balgobin and Ministerial Secretary – Pastor Owen Jack.
The official business session ended, with the final report of the Nominating Committee being presented. The following Directors were voted by the delegates and as such would serve this organization for the period 2011 – 2015.
